Reban Farms Homestead has been around since 1908 and we are proud of our Saskatchewan roots. We enjoy the cattle lifestyle and the wholesome food it allows us to produce. We are grateful to have a farm out by Petrofka Bridge along the North Saskatchewan River south of Blaine Lake.
ASK AUBREY – 4
Welcome to “Ask Aubrey,” a Q&A series with Aubrey Reban, cattle rancher and head of the Reban Farm family in Petrofka, Saskatchewan. Each post features one of the most common questions Aubrey is asked about ranching, farming practices, and cattle care. His goal is to give you a transparent, straightforward look into how Reban Farms raises its animals and cares for the land.
Another common question – not to be confused with ‘ #3 is – Are your animals grass finished??
The answer is no. While our cattle consume grass and forages for most of their lives, we finish them on a carefully balanced diet of homegrown cereal grains and forages.
Why do we do this? Because finishing on grain allows us to produce beef with the texture, flavor, and marbling that both we and our customers want. Marbling—the fine flecks of fat within the meat—is key to producing beef that is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Grain finishing helps develop this marbling while still supporting the overall health of the animals.

The grains used in our finishing program are grown right here on the farm. By raising both the forages and grains ourselves, we know exactly what our cattle are eating and can manage their nutrition with care and precision. This approach also ensures consistency in the beef we produce, giving families confidence that every cut from Reban Farms will deliver the eating experience they expect.
Our goal is to balance tradition and quality—raising cattle on grass and forages as nature intended, then finishing them with grains to provide the flavor, tenderness, and satisfaction that makes a meal memorable.
Have a question about our farm, our cattle, or how we raise our beef? Send it our way and Aubrey may answer it in a future post.
At Reban Farms, we are your Trusted Saskatoon Beef Farmer and we believe in being open and transparent about how we care for our animals, our land, and the families we feed.
